
18 Km from Fermo, on the ill that divides the central Aso valley and the river Ete Vivo basin at 358 meters over the sea level, you may admire Petritoli. It owesits origins (about the year 1000) at the opera of Farfensi monks. It was born with the name of Rodolfo Castle, probably after to a feudatory monkof the period, and remained under the dominion of Farfensi until it passed to Transarico, baron of Saltareccia, a relative of powerful lords of Brunforte. In the year 1055 it was given to the bishop Ermanno from Fermo, remaining under the jurisdiction of Fermo bishop up to the year 1198. Then coming back under the protection of Farfa church, Petritoli succeeded to rule by itself until the year 1250 and then falling definitely under the dominion of Federico II. During the followingyears Petritoli suffered occupations, destructions and sacks; the most famous is the one of Giorgio Malatesta, in the year 1349, that pushed the town to the misery. Then one other came, in the 1351, this time by the Ascoli people. Then Petritoli alternated periods of self administration, thank to the mercy of some Popes, to periods of submission under the jurisdiction of Fermo. Important historical moment was about the 1517 when the Fermo jurisdiction, trying to annex Petritoli, put it under a longsiege. Under the Napoleonic dominion the town got the title of Cantone and a wide jurisdiction. Petritoli besides took part to the military campaign of Risorgimento. Actually Petritoli has 2560 inhabitants and a territory of Kmq 23,77. It annexes to itself two hamlets.
MOREGNANO: this rural little place was town council until the 1869. Inside its little historical centre the visitor may admire Palazzo Trenta, former Municipal townhouse and the parish church dedicated to Saint Vittore and Corona. The church keeps insidea oil painting on canvas of the 1753 of unknown marchigiano artist, representing Saint Antonio and S. Francesco of Paola.
VALMIR: Recently constituted, it is situated along the SS. 433 Valdaso road; here grow up a relevant agricultural activity specialized in vegetables and fruit. However the commercial sector and the handicraft are very important.
